Artist's Comments
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
- Leonard Cohen

Submitted for a recent self-portrait assignment at uni.
This piece is a response to both external and internal homophobia.
Feel free to offer critique or ask any questions.

Thanks! The longest part was printing off the labels. Then I just stuck them all over the shirt. It took about 45minutes to do both the shirt and the backdrop.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. This piece really makes me feel and I loved that you used a Leonard Cohen song too I love your expression at the end. Instant fav! Well done.
Thank you so much! It is a great song isn't it, one of my favourites. Absolutely haunting. I do prefer the Rufus Wainwright version though, although it doesn't have the above verse.

I don't mean to sound daft but when you say
: " This piece is a response to both external and internal homophobia.
Feel free to offer critique or ask any questions."
What do you really mean, what is the message that you're trying to get across?
I really really like the photos by the way it's really interesting to look at but I'm a bit confused about what you are trying to say with the photographs? Are you homophobic? You're sick of other people being homophobic? etc. sorry I'm just a bit confused.
"This piece is a response to both external and internal homophobia." It basically means that the piece is refering both to homophobia from others (eg, violence, name-calling, abuse, descrimination, as well as dissaproval from family, church, society, etc.) as well as the homophobia experienced within oneself, being in the Closet. This is refered to as 'internalised homophobia'. It is a result of ones upbringing and can lead to feelings of depression, self-hatred and (ultimately) feelings of (and even actions of) suicide.
The piece is an attack at both forms of homophobia, yet it also (I hope) presents a more universal attack on all forms of labelling, descrimination, abuse and self-worth. The primary message is to rethink who we really are and what we are really worth behind all the labels, both those put on us by others and by ourselves.
I hope that answers your question.

The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing... A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!
Hello there! This news article is the result of a thumb share thread I posted few days ago on the dA forum along with pictures from my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
